AFRICA-DESIGN within Design Society, the winning team for Education category in Hack for Earth 2021

The Hack for Earth hackathon is a global online hackathon that was run for two weeks from October 22nd 2021  – November 7th 2021, with focus on finding real solutions to the 17 United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Throughout the two week hackathon period all teams brainstormed, developed a concept  and worked together to create a solution that is in line with the jury criteria and that could be implemented to become real tools for the good of society.

The hackathon had 7 challenge categories: Water, Partnership, Environment, Human Rights, Health, Sustainable Society and Education. A team named IVA – KTH – AFRICA-DESIGN developed a proposal within the category Education (goal no 4, also related to goal 5 gender equality and goal 10 Reduces inequalities around the world). The team created the 'UN-EduPass', a digital educational passport that qualifies a candidate to universally access higher education. 

The Team won the category Education and are now preparing for the next steps which is to join an accelerator programme, Build For Earth from January 2022 to realize and develop the solution.

 The participants from AFRICA-DESIGN  are Margareta Norell Bergendahl, Susanne Nilsson, Dunja Stevanovic, Michelle Wanyang, Julia Mortensen, Peter Oviroh and Samuel Boahen, a very diverse and multicultural group.
